Alley has been the editor/publisher of Southern Soccer Scene since its inception in 1979 as a newsletter. The publication is the oldest soccer newspaper in the United States, and covers soccer at all levels in the country. A native of Catawba County (NC), Alley has coached at the collegiate (High Point and Guilford colleges), high school and club levels. His girls classic teams won six N.C. State Championships and competed in six Region III tournaments. Served on the Greensboro Youth Soccer Association’s Board of Directors, as well as in several NCYSA capacities. Inducted into the Guilford College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.
