A
native of Cullowhee, who received a two-year degree
from Campbell College and his B.S. from Western
Carolina University in 1958, Cole was Campbell University’s
first soccer coach. Coached the Camels to three
NAIA national tournaments in his 13 years as head
coach, and retired with a 138-48-7 coaching record
(.733 winning percentage) in 1976. Received first-ever
NAIA Soccer Coach of the Year award in 1970, and
NAIA Meritorious Achievement Award for contributions
to collegiate soccer in 1976. Was inducted into
the Campbell University Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
Died on June 24, 2005.
