A
standout player at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia,
Steinbrecher began his collegiate coaching career at Warren
Wilson College in the mountains of North Carolina. He would
also coach at Appalachian State University and Boston University.
It was when he was at BU that he was chosen the venue director
for the Olympics, which played games in Boston. He became
the Director of Sports Marketing by the Quaker Oats Company
in 1985 and moved to Chicago, and in 1990 he was hired as
Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General of the United
States Soccer Federation.
