North Carolina Soccer Hall of Fame
Ed Young

Ed Young, a lifelong resident of Charlotte, was introduced to soccer as a freshman at Brevard College. A goalkeeper, he continued his collegiate career at Western Carolina University where he was the team MVP as a senior. He was a founder of several youth programs in Charlotte, as well as adult leagues in the city. He played with Press Box, later with Lowenbrau, and was an organizer, administrator, coach and referee. He served as a director for the Charlotte Junior Soccer Foundation. Young was the Director of Operations for the American Soccer League's Charlotte Lightning, which won the 1981 league championship before a crowd of 24,000 at Charlotte's Memorial Stadium. That remains a record crowd for a soccer match, at any level, in the state of North Carolina. Later he served as General Manager of the USL Charlotte Gold. At the time of his induction, Young was the co-chair of the NSCAA's Soccer Ambassadors.
