Slagle
came to Davidson College to play football, but turned to
soccer and was the Wildcats’ goalkeeper for two years.
He was also Davidson’s men’s head coach for
21 seasons (1980-2000). Was instrumental in bring the NCAA
Division I championships to a predetermined site for the
semifinals/final (hosted at Davidson for three years) and
is credited with planting the seed for the current NCAA
Division I College Cup. Has been a strong promoter of the
game at all levels and in 2001 was named Chief Executive
Officer of the Capital Area Soccer League in Raleigh.
