Vroom retired as boys soccer coach at Swansboro High School
in Onslow County after 25 years as the Pirates’ head
coach. His teams won 21 conference championships, made 22
appearances in the N.C. High School Athletic Association
state playoffs and won seven state championships. His career
coaching record was 490-73-25, and he was named state coach
of the year three times by the N.C. Soccer Coaches Association.
Named National COY in 2001 by the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America, he coached in the national East-West
All-Star Game in Charleston, S.C., and has served as a head
coach in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game in Greensboro.
